My American Holiday

Another July 4th has passed me by. This year, it didn't really seem like July 4th to me, but the three days off were certainly a blessing.

July 3rd, we celebrated Keegan (my cousin's baby) turning one. The arrival of Keegan has certainly changed my family. He is the only baby in my immediate family and has all of our adoration and attention. Of course, his FIRST birthday was an event.

My aunt (his "Gammy") made his cake and as always, it turned out superb. Everything Kim makes turns out great! I loved the red, white, and blue...

After dinner, Keegan got to eat his birthday cupcake with the help of his Gammy and with all of us watching...

It tasted better with two spoons...

Keegan's attention was diverted away from his cupcake by a man in a white hat...I think Keegan was thinking, "Don't even think about it! You can't have this cupcake!"

My parents, great-uncle and great-aunt to Keegy

The icing was SO good, Keegy had to do a little dance...
After he got cleaned up from all that icing and had a nap, it was present time. He got so many toys, he couldn't decide what to play with first! He likes Mickey Mouse and yes, even though he is SO intelligent, he hasn't mastered reading yet, but here he is with his baby Mickey Mouse card from his adoring Nellie and her hubby...

So Cute!

He loves music and was so happy with his "rockin' out" guitar!
We honored the values our country was founded on by attending church in the morning. I had goosebumps listening to "The Star Spangled Banner" beautifully played on the saxophone after which our pastor's son led the church in a salute to the American Flag..."I pledge allegiance..."
After church, we went to Mamo and Poppy's to eat hamburgers and hot dogs and homemade ice cream. My youngest cousin showed up showing the world, he is a passionate patriot, hot-blooded American son...

July 5th, my hubby and I had no plans as is typical and ended up at Mamo and Poppy's again. My first rootbeer float of the year was so good and I knocked the socks off my grandparents at Mexican Train.

During the weekend, we spent some time looking through some old pictures from our past and I found some memorable ones....

1995, I was 16, cooking, and was involved in an incident with powdered sugar falling off the shelf above me and covering me in white while my dad snapped the picture. Of course, I had to change before finishing cooking and leaving for the day.

In 2003, my friend introduced me to a friend of hers never dreaming two years later, I would marry him. The July 4th parade that year had a totally different meaning to me as my hero was in it and what girl doesn't like posing up against a red firetruck?! My hubby isn't a firefighter now, but he will always be my hero.

Ah, the way we were....
God Bless the USA!!!
